Beronia, the award-winning Riojan winery nestled in the heart of La Rioja Alta, is one of the region’s best-known brands.

Acclaimed internationally for its delicious wines, Beronia's origins date back to the 1970s, when a group of Basque businessmen with a passion for great food and wines would meet to enjoy in each other’s company while they were in La Rioja – always accompanied by a plate of good food and a glass of wine. Such was their love of gastronomy and the vine that they soon decided to make their own wines, for which they bought some land, planted vineyards and started to build a winery, naming it Beronia, specialising in making top Crianza and Reserva wines.

Beronia is quintessentially Rioja. Its wines are defined by the region and the soils in which the vines are grown and its name is linked to the history of the land where the winery is found. Beronia’s name is an homage to the Celtic tribe, the Berones, who roamed through Rioja during the third century B.C. Integrated into the González Byass “Family of Wine” in the early 80s, the brand began its expansion into international markets. Today the distinctive Beronia style, based on a unique ageing process in mixed American and French oak barrels, has given the wines international notoriety and a number of awards, from Wine Spectator’s Top 100 Wines to being the International Wine Challenge’s best reds.
